GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) President Barack Obama will not attend next months event marking the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address in Pennsylvania, national park officials said.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will instead represent the administration the Nov. 19 sesquicentennial, officials at Gettysburg National Military Park said Wednesday.
McPherson, a top Civil War historian who won the Pulitzer for Battle Cry of Freedom, said he was surprised by Obamas decision.

No. He shouldn’t be there.
Obama would probably try to appear Lincolnesque, maybe speak without a TelePrompTer, and show himself as the blathering fool that he is.
On balance, my overall view of Lincoln is positive.
I am glad he won't be dishonored by the wrong first black man to become an American President.
I can think of five better candidates without breaking a sweat.
He also can't stop saying “I” and “me” in any speech, and there's no way he can praise himself over Lincoln. Nothing in it for him, so why go?
Think of all the Reagan speeches praising others and the United States of America. Obama can rarely find the time or desire to do this. He thinks he knows better.

That’s right. They dredged the bottom of the sewar to come up with this evil bastard.
The text of the Gettysburg address explains it. While Obama might glom on to the image of Lincoln, he wants nothing to do with Lincoln’s patriotism or understanding of America.
A common mistake is in assuming that Obama hates America. He likely does not hate it; instead he is indifferent to it and sees it as a nuisance. Socialists see nations as artificial constructs with no underlying purpose or importance. They want nations to cease to exist, and certainly if they have a homogeneous people, a unique culture and history.
This is why they adore open borders. They hope to flood nations with other peoples so that they cease being what they were, and become little more than socialist controlled districts in economic blocs.
In his time, Lincoln had to deal with such people, and found them both loathsome and dangerous. Were he to have his druthers, he would confine them in perpetuity as public menaces.
0bama’s utter disregard for this nation and its history is just appalling. His disrespect could not be more deliberate or transparent.
It isn’t about him. Why would he go? He only goes where he is the center of attention....so childish.
How nice. A woman born in England, no ancestors to revere there.
But she’s there representing the federal government mr Lincoln claimed was supreme.
Guess it almost makes sense.
So did mine.
Heaven forbid that he would do anything to celebrate a Republican!!!
This is real American history. I’d love to be in the front row. I’ve been to Gettysburg as a child and as an adult. It is an experierience. NonAmericans wouldn’t care.
Here’s the problem:
“Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war.”
Obama doesn’t want the class war he is fomenting to resolve. I don’t believe he sees the US as a united entity but as a usurper that must be broken and then come under the sovereignty of the EU or international courts. The Address upholds those values which he is laboring to defeat.
All history begins with him. I’m shocked he hasn’t ordered a new calendar.
Obama has nothing in common with the descendants of slaves.
Most Excellent!
We certainly don’t want a half black, Indonesian, Muslim, socialist, Kenyan, ritual killing, lying, narcissistic, poseur as president, stepping on hallowed ground of the real Americans!
Perhaps November 19th is a moslem holiday.
Thank GOD for small favors. The slime would bring dishonor on those grounds and the men who died there.
