Four teenagers are being charged with capital murder in the fatal mugging of 87-year-old Lawrence E. 'Shine' Thornton of Greenville, Mississippi.
A veteran who served on a minesweeper in the Pacific theater during World War II, he returned home to work for a local electric company and eventually opened a liquor store.
Shine was a World War II veteran and a famous personality in the Delta region for his hot tamales. They were known as Marias Famous Hot Tamales, named after his wife Mary. He was crowned king of the 2012 Delta Hot Tamale Festival.
According to Greenville police, Thornton was killed after being accosted in his own driveway on Oct. 18. He was pushed down and his wallet stolen.
He passed away from his injuries two days later at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Assistant police chief Andrew Kaho tells the Delta Democrat Times Terrance Morgan and Edward Johnson, both 19; and Leslie Litt and Geblonski Murray, both 18, were arrested in connection with the incident. Each of the four is charged with capital murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
I didnt know Shine Thornton, but his story was well known and documented in the Delta region.
Its a story of hard work, overcoming adversity, belief in God and finding some success in doing something you love.

Geblonski?
execute these four skin bags. this one guy was better than all four of them put together.
A common Amish-Polish name. Not all Amish are of Germanic extraction
Here is one scenario where the new shock horror movies, a la Saw and Hostel and the tons of rip offs, actually have their uses - we can use them to get ideas about fitting punishments for these 4 individuals.
Another article mentions Mr. Thornton served on the USS Herald. The wiki article for this ship mentions its operations almost identical and less than a week ahead of the ship my father served on at the same time.
There's a good chance that both of the ships were in Sasebo and Shanghai at the same time and my dad could have possibly rubbed elbows with him on liberty.
Here's a flotilla of minesweepers in Shanghai during the time frame they both were there.
BBBWWAAAHAHAHAHA,
Now THAT was funny!
Just goes to show, great minds think alike.
Holder’s people, Obama’s sons
Reminds me of a time I got pulled out of morning muster lineup, told to get on the P-3. Grab what extra rafts you can from the loft. (I was a PR)
The USS Force, en route from Haiphong to Guam, caught fire and sank in record time.
All hands abandoned ship at O’Dark Thirty in the morning.
A WOODEN HULLED minesweeper, I still don’t know what caused the fire.
We got on station, relieved the AF C130 tanker that was first on call, and for the next 15 hours the pilot shut down and feathered all but the starboard outer engine, and we coasted in a counter click wise circle above the life rafts for what seemed an eternity. (A P3 in Low and Slow flight can stay afloat with only one engine. Hellova airplane.)
A Norwegian freighter showed up, going about a LOT of miles out of their way, (the Pacific ocean is HUGE!) and picked up all crew just as night fell.
Long day, never got a T-shirt.
Just another day in the life.
More Africans killing old white people..
This seems to be a popular trend among American Africans.
Yes, favorite activity of the bipedal, feral animals. Law abiding citizens have had enough of ‘Fricans pulling this ****.
More Africans killing old white people..
Why didn’t they pick on four white kids to make it more even? I wish the old guy was carrying a gun...
