Some pretty diametrically opposed statements in this story.

“contained the fire in the area of the battery compartment...” “...driver got out before car fully engulfed in flames....”

Car demolished and burned but protected the driver - he can’t wait for his next Model S......

Not that I want to defend the Tesla, but to be fair, the original story said "...and the driver was able to get out before flames engulfed the front of the car."

I understand, but the jump from ‘front’ to completely engulfed is only the response time of the fire department.

I suppose that you never heard of a gasoline powered car catching fire after a violent crash. /s

As for the 200 mile range, that’s a different issue altogether. I would need at least double that to get me interested.

That is pure speculation on your part.

Yeah, the stock started the year at $35 and is all the way “down” to just over $160. What a dog!

I could use a few more “under performers” like that in my portfolio.

Tesla will be just fine, this is nothing more than a hiccup.

Rush to the assembly line! Bugs need to be worked out of the thing.

Maybe so...I was assuming a composite body, but it appears these body panels are all stamped aluminum.

I’m just wondering how a battery powered car can cost $100K.

This isn’t “Everyman’s” Car - it is a rich boy’s toy.

They just need more subsidies per vehicle to improve the illusion this is a viable business model!

I will dance with joy when this evil company folds... and it will fold because obama is running out of OPM.

No one has ever died from a crash in Tesla Model S. It has extra crumple zone because there’s no gasoline engine. The car alerts you before it catches on fire. This may be the safest car ever made.

This is the S model, the four dour sedan.

It ranges in price from $62,400 to $82,400.

It is not the $100k roadster model.

People have grown rich supplying “rich boys” with toys!

It’s an honest trade. And where ever did you get the notion that the Tesla S was supposed to be an “everyman’s car’?

I have no problem with a company that takes a risk to provide a product to consumers willing to pay for the product.

What I do have a problem with, however, is their taking a $465 Million Dollar loan from the US Department of Energy to do that, regardless of whether they are going to pay it off early.

Subsidy of basic capitalism (not likely), subsidy of ‘green’ (likely) or for whatever reason, it has to have some benefit that can be realized by the taxpayer. To me THAT puts at least one of their offerings into that “everyman” thing you’re chiding me on. And, to that end, I don’t consider $62K-$82K ‘everyman’.

I will say this, however. The fact they are actually going to repay that loan is laudable. We’ll never recoup on GM, or Solyndra, or whoever this administration has given money to.

Does anyone know what it costs to recharge a battery for an electric car? How much power does it take?

“The stock price that we have is more than we have any right to deserve,” (said Tesla CEO Elon Musk)
