Former Illinois Representative Jesse Jackson Jr., once one of the most promising black politicians in the United States, reported to federal prison on Monday to begin serving a 2-1/2 year sentence for misusing campaign funds, according to a family spokeswoman.
Jackson, a former Democratic representative and the son of civil rights leader the Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., entered a federal correctional facility in Butner, North Carolina, family spokeswoman Bunnie Jackson-Ransom said in a statement.
"I am happy to report that he is in good spirits, all things considered," said North Carolina Representative G.K. Butterfield, who accompanied Jackson to the prison, according to the statement.

"His wife, Sandi, a former Chicago city council member, was sentenced to one year for falsifying tax returns that failed to report the campaign money as income. The couple has two children. The judge ordered Sandi Jackson to report to prison 30 days after Jackson Jr. is released to reduce the impact on the children."Just like they do for thousands of other couples each year, right?

To liberals, it sounds more like a resume enhancement.

“Jesse Jackson Jr., once one of the most promising black politicians in the United States”
The operative word here is “once.”

The whole Black Democrat Caucus ought to be accompanying him to prison... permanently.

In Democrat eyes, misusing campaign funds is a political crime, so JJJ is now a political prisoner. This will only add to his Democrat street cred.

According to this, Butner has low and medium security units and a medical facility. Notable inmates include Bernie Madoff and Jesse's predecessor Mel Reynolds. It isn't even a penitentiary; it has a fence but no walls. Compared to the Fed slammer in Florence, this place is a girl scout camp.
Incidentally, Mel Reynolds was convicted of bank fraud, statutory rape (of a 16 year old aide), kiddie porn and obstruction. He was pardoned by Bubba Clinton and word is that he now considers himself rehabilitated enough to run for his old office.
