VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Michael Bloomberg has become the Republicans favorite punching bag in the closing days of the Virginia governors race.
Rand Paul seized on the New York City mayors new $1.1 million TV ad buy, which attacks Republican Ken Cuccinelli for opposing gun control, during a Monday afternoon rally here.
Once he takes your guns, hes coming after your Big Gulp, the Kentucky senator said.
Cuccinelli told the crowd of several hundred people that he and Paul stopped for Slurpees on the way over to the Filipino Cultural Center, their second of three stops together.
You want to get at the problem, dont take away peoples constitutional rights to defend themselves, said Cuccinelli. Go after the problem.
Paul said that Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who has said in recent days that he does not care about his F rating from the National Rifle Association, does not understand the Constitution.
Some of you get the Second Amendment, but he gets to decide, said Paul. What I would like to see for Virginia is a candidate who defends the Second Amendment and will be a champion of the Second Amendment.
And you cant have the Second Amendment unless youre going to defend the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment, he added.
The billionaire is attacking Cuccinelli for not wanting to close the so-called gun show loophole, and the commercial hes running in the D.C. market highlights the mass shootings at places like Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook and Aurora.

Who the heck would vote for that psycho looking McAuliffe?
Sadly, plenty of voters - especially in Northern Virginia, the part of the state with the largest population. The kind who think she's a feminist heroine...
...and think she's a moron.
Good to see Rand stepping in and hopefully influencing some libertarians to support KC. TM is quite possibly the most corrupt candidate to ever run for Governor of a state since Edwin Edwards of LA.
Not the best campaign picture. Made me think “Vote for me or the puppy gets it!”
Haha, it’s a follow-up to a comment Cuccinelli made at the last debate.
The Dem was doing the usual ‘promise you everything with no way to pay for it’ and Cuccinelli said ‘I like puppies too but I’d never bring one home without a plan to take care of it.’ It got the only laugh from the audience at Virginia Tech. :^)
Great line! I’m in Western PA, and our hometown duo of Quinn and Rose interviewed Cuccinelli this morning. He sounded fine to me. I can’t believe VA would even think of electing that Clinton retread.
