Au contraire ...

How much physics have you studied? Comets don't travel like hurricanes where experts wonder about which path they will take. In the vacuum of space a known mass traveling at a known velocity will take a very specific path in relation to another large body (the sun). It is the reason we are able to send spacecraft to other planets with incredible accuracy. There are no mystery unknowns that can affect the movement of a comet. Moreover the "Asteroid belt" is a collection of large massive bodies ranging from the size of a car to small worlds. It is not a chaotic zone of dust and debris like those depicted in sci-fi films and video games. There are vast stretches of space separating each and every body. It is why we are able to send planetary probes through it unscathed. It's more than 99% empty space. Get back to me AFTER ISON passes by and then we can discuss if it's a matter of opinion or not. You and this nutty mystic lady will be proven wrong and all the rational scientists of the world will be proven right.

About a million miles is the average distance between asteroids in the asteroid belt.

So you don't believe that the Solar Winds would cause the debris trail to swirl behind its inbound path?
So you don't believe that such a close pass to Mars, that Mar's gravitational tug on Ison couldn't alter the orbit of Ison?
So you don't believe that "a chaotic zone of dust and debris" is what makes up a comet's tail, or is left behind in the orbit path of a comet?
Then explain the Leonids and why they affect us every year.
