The magnitude has been fixed as 6.8 to 7.1 per the latest Japanese information so massive may be an overstatement. I was there for the 2011 disaster and the shaking went on for at least 30 seconds. Even well above the ground that was truly terrifying.

Shaking (2011) went on for almost a full 2+ minutes.. and a constant vibration for over 11 hours.. I know, I am still here :p
