Diplomats are not surprised that the security agencies under US President Barack Obama have reportedly been monitoring close allies like German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He has failed to foster close relationships with other heads of state, causing much frustration around the world.
The Democrat, who prefers to spend his evenings with his family or alone in front of his computer, has made it no secret in Washington that he does not want to make new friends. That maxim especially applies to his foreign diplomacy. Unlike his predecessor George W. Bush, Obama is loved by the people of the world, but much less by their heads of government. On the heels of recent revelations that US spy agencies might have monitored Chancellor Merkels cell phone, the complaints about Merkels lost friend Obama are misplaced. Obama doesnt want to be a friend.

*Puke*.
What's the basis for this statement?
This is one of the NYT’s “partners” speaking.
Ah, the people who loved Bush were not people. Only nutty lefties can be people!
If you feel the need to eavesdrop on your friends, you must be concerned that they aren’t really your friends. You must be concerned that just maybe they have found a new group of friends.
Gezzz
Who writes this BS?
Oh, he's loved by the people of the world all right. they love his drone strikes and his eavesdropping and his fiscal policies that devalue their investments in US debt instruments. Who wouldn't love that?
The differences here are that this Administration was stupid enough to get caught and now Germany has the right to have a good public hissy fit.
The other difference is that other Administrations weren't also spying on you, your mom, and your gardener like this "beloved to the world" douchebag is.
1) weaken America
2) alienate her friends
3) empower/embolden her enemies
4) further the goals of islam
5) attack Israel
or
all of the above
An African head of government said during a visit to Washington that he longed for the days of George W. Bush. At least with him, he said, one knew where one stood. But yet Obama is the transparent president.
There are still a number of secrets from World War 2 that haven’t been revealed. One is whether were were reading the British diplomatic and military traffic, and whether they were reading ours. I had the privilege of knowing a code breaker who worked in the Pacific theater, and asked whether we had been reading British mail. Instead of saying “I don’t know” or denying, he just refused to answer and changed the subject.
It happens.
OTOH, no country is a gentleman...
There’s a news story of Druge titled:
BRICS Countries Build New Internet to Avoid NSA Spying
I’d post it here, but the source is rejected by FR.
“On this day, at the latest, it must have dawned on diplomats that this US president was different from his predecessors. He was someone who did not attach value to diplomatic niceties nor to the sensitivities of his close friends, which he already had proven as a presidential candidate.”
O had/has close friends?
