The government spent approximately $1.03 trillion on 83 means-tested federal welfare programs in fiscal year 2011 alone a price tag that makes welfare that year the governments largest expenditure, according to new data released by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee.
The total sum taxpayers spent on federal welfare programs was derived from a new Congressional Research Service (CRS) report on federal welfare spending which topped out at $745.84 billion for fiscal year 2011 combined with an analysis from the Republican Senate Budget Committee staff of state spending on federal welfare programs (based on The Oxford Handbook of State and Local Government Finance), which reached $282.7 billion in fiscal year 2011.
The data excludes spending on Social Security, Medicare, means-tested health care for veterans without service-connected disabilities, and the means-tested veterans pension program.

We need to end this, along with the EPA, FDA, the Dept. or Energy, Dept. of Education, AmeriCorps, Peace Corps. and every other UNCONSTITUTIONAL thing Fedzilla does!
People b#tched and complained (rightfully) about what a waste the make work programs like the WPA were. The WPA at least made your lazy ass lean on a shovel.
what is sick is that enough americans think it’s totally okay for government to forcibly take money from some citizens to give to others, to the tune of a trillion dollars a year.
now THAT is sick.
Americans (American’ts) have learned to live with their HANDS OUT for the Dem-handout.
“Mission Accomplished...”
- Barak Hussain Obama
Politicians are back on their kick:
“Social Security is broken and running out of money.”
Why don’t we ever hear that Welfare For Moochers is broken and running out of money?
Or that the Obama-phone probram is broken?
Or that the Freebies For Illegals programs are broken and running out of money?
The fraud , waste and organizational confusion of the Roosevelt WPA years caused journalists to coin a new term - boondoggle.
Now they just give you money so they don't have any people working, but the system is just as screwed up.
The hip, high tech Obama has invented the virtual welfare boondoggle with all the dysfunction but none of the work.
Any actual work is hired out to foreign Chinese contractors and payed for with stimulus funds to paid out foreign workers and using foreign manufactured components made in China to stimulate the American economy and provide high paying jobs to American workers in industry
Funny enough, there was an article the other day discussing all the ‘wasted money’ spent on medical care for seniors.
No mention of the moochers being cut off or forced to cut back.
That 20,000 a piece for 50 million people.
Cut the welfare and balance the budget overnight.
Here is what I would do: End ALL “means-tested” programs immediately. After that, we start the phase-out of Social Security and Medicare (let people take care of THEMSELVES!).
At the same time, we radically down size FedZilla and set capitalism free. No minimum wages. No NLRB. No SEC. No FDIC. No Federal Reserve System. No EPA or OSHA. We also should get rid of FDA, the Dept. or Energy, Dept. of Education, AmeriCorps, Peace Corps.
While we are at it, we allow states to ban unions if they choose and decide for themselves what kinds of “civil rights” laws they want to have. We have too many “protected classes” with special rights. That has to end.
sounds good to me.
And today the glitch will ‘insist’ on immigration reform,(to get more votes to purchase).
Agree 100%! It may be too late, but this is our only hope of restoring America, by restoring cultural norms of self-reliance and morality. Morality? Yes. By subsidizing the consequences of immoral behavior (laziness, drug use, adultery, sex outside marriage, divorce, multi-culturalism, etc.) we permit people to continue in it without the costs; force people to sink or swim without this safety net and they will understand that our cultural norms and Christian notions of morality are in fact prerequisites for avoiding poverty and premature death.
It’s like vote fraud voters.
They can be named in the paper, but never name who they voted for.
It’s also welfare for untold thousands of bureaucratic drones.
Yes. Today, you will hear people say things like “but, but, but... we can’t just LET PEOPLE DIE!”
Well, the non-politically correct, but morally correct answer is that we can and should. In the long run we will save lives. If not working means that you might actually starve, then you will work. It might actually happen to a few people before the lazy moochers realize we are serious. But after that, it will sink in.
The WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH. But a good, moral life makes poverty (and many forms of disease) impossible.
