Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel was granted a new trial on Wednesday by a Connecticut judge who ruled his attorney failed to adequately represent him when he was convicted in 2002 of killing his neighbor in 1975.
The ruling by Judge Thomas Bishop marked a dramatic reversal after years of unsuccessful appeals by Skakel, the 52-year-old nephew of Robert F. Kennedys widow, Ethel Kennedy. Skakel is serving 20 years to life.
Skakel argued his trial attorney, Michael Sherman, was negligent in defending him when he was convicted in the golf club bludgeoning of Martha Moxley when they were 15 in wealthy Greenwich. (Skakels current attorney, Hubert) Santos called the case weak.

I see he is healthy too bad he is not sick or ready to die.
They still want justice.
No one likes the Kennedys. The are entitled scum.
I say this as a former resident of Fairfield County, CT. There is something evil about the Kennedy clan.
Guilty
Wouldn't that make him the nephew of Robert Kennedy, too?
Michael Skakel is the nephew of Ethyl Skakel who married Robert Kennedy - doesn't make him a Kennedy, just a Kennedy-Wannabe ...
Not news. Everyone knows the Kennedys can get away with murder.
That doesn’t make sense. To Skakel, they were Aunt Ethel and Uncle Bobby.
“The way the trial was handled seemed shady to me, IIRC, even if the guy is guilty.”
Yes, that is my recollection too. I think one issue was that had he been tried and convicted at the time he would never have been eligible for such a lengthy sentence as a youthful offender. That might not be accurate, but that’s what I remember. Imho it is not fair to give him a longer sentence due to the fact it took the state so long to bring their case, it is not as if he fled the country or something like that.
And I hope they get it. But this loser and his travails no longer reaches the level of a national news story. He's a messed-up spoiled rich kid, and one of tens of thousands of murders trying to beat their rap. I'm sick of hearing about him as if there's something special or important about him over any other convicted killer.
To the Kennedy Family Trust, he ain't squat ...
Whatever... couldn't care less... (shrug)
Anyway, back to my original point - - it is interesting how the writer of the story refers to this guy Skakel as "the 52-year-old nephew of Robert F. Kennedys widow, Ethel Kennedy", as if he wasn't also the nephew of Bobby.
