Federal health officials are warning pet owners to be cautious about feeding their dogs jerky treats as they continue to investigate a treat-related illnesses that has left nearly 600 dogs dead and sickened more than 3,000 others.
The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday issued an alert to consumers about the illnesses and deaths tied to jerky treats from China. Officials say the exact cause of the illnesses remains unknown.
"This is one of the most elusive and mysterious outbreaks we've encountered," Bernadette Dunham, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine, said in a statement. "Our beloved four-legged companions deserve our best effort, and we are giving it."
The agency has received reports from pet owners and veterinarians about jerky pet treat-related illnesses affecting 3,600 dogs and 10 cats in the U.S. since 2007. Approximately 580 of those pets have died, according to a news release.

We just ran out of a bag of “Duck Jerky” with our four month old puppy and have to admit I never checked the label for country of origin. Will from now on, but in the meantime this article would be more helpful if it listed some of the brand names involved.

All your dog treats are belong to us.
I use gluten free flour, add water and cheddar cheese to it and bake it until hard. My dog eats it up.
Unless you are the enemy within, and we seem to have almost half the country in that category now, you would insane to allow any any food or medicine manufactured in China or India into this country to be consumed, ingested, injected.
Both countries are cesspools of infection just waiting to be released on other countries. No need for a hot war if you can kill off the population by stealth.
It matters not if these people are just filthy (millions are), uneducated (millions are) or perfectly willing to deliberately contaminate our food and medical supply.

Buy cheap hotdogs. You can get them on sale for a dollar or less for 8 and the dogs love them.

Even though it says Made in USA the maker may be using Chinese suppliers for raw materials.
