Bruce Bartlett, who served as domestic policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan and a Treasury official for President George H.W. Bush, told MSNBCs Chris Hayes, host of All in with Chris Hayes, on Friday that the Republican Party has been hijacked by crazy people, stupid people.
Bartlett, who is currently a columnist and blogger for the Fiscal Times, said he wondered why former Treasury secretaries who worked for Republican administrations did not speak out publicly during the budget impasse to tell the GOP that not raising the debt ceiling would be a bad idea.
Bartlett said it was perfectly understandable that some Republican members of Congress might not want to go against the rest of the party and vote for a clean continuing resolution at first, because of the crazy Tea Party people and the fear that they would be challenged in the primaries by Republican candidates backed by people with unlimited resources.

The Bible says a lot about a person like this who lacks understanding:
Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
Proverbs 18:2
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
Proverbs 20:19
Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.
He has a right to his opinions, but it's probably time he dropped the whole Reagan connection and sold himself as a long-time Obama supporter.
Another RINO whino? Complaining about stupidity?
You’ve got the world-class, A-1, top of the heap, triple whopper, build-your-house-below-sea-level, make-my-teeth-hurt, hysterical Barbara Streisand kind of stupidity. You are the the breath-taking, eye-popping, headline-screaming, glorious set-yourself-on-fire chief dingbat of stupid after which there is no more stupid.
Youre more stupid than any teen-ager I know. The original big bang of stupid. One-of-a-kind, global, universe-exhausting stupid collapsed on itself and so dense that no intellect can escape.
And finally, you are more stupid than all the hopelessly incompetent college administrators who hired raving totalitarian cockroach professors with their nincompoopy ideas on how to ruin America even faster than the socialist crash test dummies in Congress you voted for.
Im a little out of breath, can I take a break and come back later?
What a maroon.
I stand with Senator Ted Cruz!
= Reagan gave the young man a shot; he became a GHW Bush liberal, and he goes on the Democrat channel to bash Republicans.
Wow. What a scumbag.
By the way, don’t confuse this guy with the greatly admired Wall Street Journal editor Bob Bartley, who passed on a few years ago. Bartley provided readers of the WSJ with conservatives they might not have known about, like Arthur Laffer, Paul Craig Roberts, Jude Wanniski, etc. The intellectual foundation that was established in the 1970s by the Wall Street Journal editorial page was a great help in electing Reagan.
Without a /sarc tag, you’re likely to catch flak for that post ;-)
Hey Dirtbag!
Us "Crazy-stupid people" are the hard-working/taxpaying traditional American voters. We are the makers, not parasites like you and everyone in government.
crazy Tea Party people — I tire of that kind of rubbish.
Bruce was cranky, depressive, negative, and self-isolating thirty years ago. Even when he was young he would sit in a corner quietly griping while other young Reagan Administration members were having fun. He didn’t get picked up by the GW Bush team and he’s been consumed with a growing bitterness and hatred ever since. I tried to reach out to him with kindness and humor, but he was gratuitously insulting to me, refusing to withdraw his opinion that we Tea Party people are stupid. So I wrote him off.
I agree. He was excellent at one time. Most of his articles were posted on FR. And then he became an expert on "crazy" from personal experience.
Brucey, Brucey, Brucey, time to go back to your bath house, and leave the politics to the adults.
I’m sure you hobnob with those Log Cabin types, its why you soo have your panties in such a bunch.
Get one of your friends to undo that knot in your jockstrap, blood will rush back into your real head, and you will begin to think more clearly.
BTW, don’t come “out” again.
Reagan and bush were surrounded by progressives like this pos. bush was one himself but Reagan allowed too many into his administration... including ghw bush... the good old “new world order” tax hiker.
Well done!
Looks like Bruce is suffering from the same affliction as Paul Craig Roberts.
He’s an economic Icarus.
Can we talk about the rat party being hijacked by evil, corrupt people?
