I suspect from your screen name that you never breast-fed a baby. Just guessing, but am I right? So let me tell you how this works.
Yes there are breast pumps. Even the best ones do not work anywhere near as well as a baby’s jaws in emptying out the breast. When the breast is not emptied, it reduces milk production. Less milk is not a good thing for the baby.
Furthermore, the pump has to be used regularly, every few hours, to keep production up.
Furthermore, babies who get in the habit of drinking from a bottle don’t transition back to the breast readily, because the bottle is so much easier. So having a sitter feed him from a bottle every few hours is going to create problems.
I’m not being critical of you because these are things most men don’t know, and even women who haven’t nursed a baby don’t know. But nursing is something healthy and natural that this woman is trying to do for her child, and as a conservative you should not favor the government interfering in the relationship between parent and child.
Right on all counts.
I was hospitalized for a post surgical complications a week after my 3rd baby. Even though the hospital provided the top of the line breast pump my supply never recovered. And once she got ahold of the bottle nipple she refused the breast.
By 2w post partum I was having to supplement with formula.
My wife had to go back to work 30 days after giving birth to twin girls. And she was breast feeding.
She had to work 1 month to get what we called her “quitting bonus”
So I took a leave from work so I could watch the girls Monday - Friday for that month.
So Yeah, I know about it.
