In Alaska we had a group of politicos who chuckled as they dubbed themselves the CBC, which stands for Corrupt Bastards Club. But it was no laughing matter. I, and many others, took them on. We won. When I served as chairman of our states Oil and Gas Commission, I reported on the cronyism of the chair of my own Party, who had been appointed by our governor to that same energy regulating commission. (Click here to see a reporters reaction to a short Newt Gingrich interview on the matter.) The whistle blowing resulted in him receiving the largest ethics fine in the states history. But that was just the tip of the oily iceberg. The FBI investigated Alaskan lawmakers for taking bribes from the oil industry in exchange for votes favorable to that industry, and politicos ended up in jail.* The lawmakers actually called themselves the Corrupt Bastards Club and even emblazoned the CBC initials on baseball caps they gifted each other thats how untouchable they believed they were. But average, concerned citizens said, enough is enough, and shook things up. Though some of the CBC members ended up in horizontal pinstripes, much of the compromised party apparatus stayed in power.
Ill never forget standing at the podium during our state GOP convention and asking delegates to stand up with me and oust the status quo because the political environment had to change for Alaska to progress toward her manifest destiny as a more productiveand ethicalstate to help secure our union. Only about half stood up. The rest looked around gauging the political winds and sat on their thumbs. Our federal delegation was incensed at me. Their influence resulted in much of the party machine staying put, but Ill never be sorry I fought it.

Sorry the CBC acronym is already taken in Washington by the Congressional Black Caucus. Of course, they are a Crooked Bastards Club too.
She expected at least a minimal level of decency from her many opponents. She didn't even get that minimal level.
Ah...what might have been.
I don't think their are many that could hold up against the kind of non-stop personal attacks from the left-wing/progressive/communist attack machine.
Especially from those who were supposed to be "on our side".
Head’s up!
I don’t think there is ANYONE who could hold up to that insane level of personal attack, especially when even your own purported “side” joins in to stab you in the back.
Damn, how many GOP leaders spoke up for her when her church was torched, when Dem operatives conspired to drive her into financial bankrupcy with bogus lawsuits, when her family and children were targeted and slimed by tabloids, when Letterman made ‘rape’ jokes about her underage daughter, when the entirity of the media was accusing her of moral complicity in the mass-murder in Tucson?
The GOP is the Enemy, it is not immune from the Progressive Disease.
I say let the Corporatists have their Damn Party!
Will not vote for Bevin. He is not a Kentuckian, and he is not one of us.
“I don’t think their are many that could hold up against the kind of non-stop personal attacks from the left-wing/progressive/communist attack machine.”
Not to mention what she was getting from her own
spineless party.
Well, that's up to you but it seems awful shortsighted and somewhat tribal. The Massachusetts patriots din't reject Washington because he 'wasn't one of us'. Washington didn't reject Lafayette because he 'wasn't one of us'. Texans didn't reject Crockett because he 'wasn't one of us'. Personally, my allegiance is to ideas, not places.
But McConnell is. Right?
How many votes do you think that $3B bribe and pork will buy locally?
God, I love that image.
Palin speaks the truth. I remember when she was in charge, we had good responsible govt. Since she left, it’s all went back to normal CBC; sad for Alaska.
