Many people smoke after they've eaten. Lindell Harvey smokes because he hasn't.
"You smoke out of anxiety because you don't have the food you need," said Harvey, 54, who lives alone in Crum Lynne, Pa. He receives disability checks from the Navy that keep him $2,000 below the poverty line.
Harvey relies on his Newports to see him through his hard days. "In my mind, the smoking becomes a comfort as I try to create ways to get food."

I’ve only been to Vegas once, for a conference (about smoking bans) and that was 13 or 14 years ago.
I guess I should have said I only knew one truly rude smoker, I’ve met a few - the kind that toss their butts anywhere. But I don’t know any truly rude smokers. My mother was the only one I ever knew.
My choice to smoke or not smoke has nothing to do with this, your support of the government intervention where it doesn’t belong is where we will always disagree.
LOL!
This ain’t Facebook n00bie.
Adults come here for discourse so if you can’t handle it when you are caught and called out for being an ignorant liar then maybe you need to go to DU where the rest of the liberal children hang out.
That sounds like I did something to push the government to intervene. I did not! I have not voted, I have not picketed, I have not written letters, made phone calls or anything else to push the non smoking agenda. All I have done is smile when I ask for the non smoking section and I am informed that the whole place, restaurant, hotel, airline etc.... is ALL non smoking. I smile REAL BIG and I make a point to go there again!
I guess that is what you call voting with your feet..... and your dollars.
Our VFW was a smoking friendly Post but was losing money so they went to a NON smoking post which the few smokers complained about and whined but the place is now booming with Vets and doing about 40% better than when it was a smoking post, and the whiners did come back but have to go outside to smoke.
“Soy sauce, 1.00”
6 tablespoons of salt...5 cents
6 Oz water .............free
Mix together. Instant soy sauce.
It tastes the same to me. I guess I must be missing a taste bud or something.
I’ve always voted with my feet - and dollars. And that includes not supporting any establishment that pushed for the government intervention. Including what had been one of my favorite establishments that was totally opposed to the ban, until he was bribed by the local restaurant association that was funded by the big chain restaurants.
I didn’t say you did anything to encourage the intervention, but you support it anyway because it has made establishments to your liking without you having to do anything. That is the same in my book.
Once the LPD unionized it has been downhill from there. Add in the affirmative action hire for Chief, as well as the absolute silence of feminists given the corrupt/illicit culture there since there is a female Chief and its an interesting mix...from a distance.
You're right - cigarette tax targets the poor. Same with Lotto - targets those who can't do math... and are likely poor because of it. Dems would never put a cigarette type tax on white wine... or expensive chocolates or wind surfing etc...
but if I ever do win the lott and I only spent $2 on it in a few months, FR is going to be skipping a quarterly fundraiser.
Poor guy needs to stop smoking and find comfort in food.
:p
I have also noticed that. I also did not pay attention to smokers who stank, Now I do.
But I do remember that I would not date a girl that smoked.
It wasn’t pleasant kissing that incinerator.
BTDT
Our American Legion Post was a smoking friendly Post and making money, but the few anti-smokers whined and complained and now it is non-smoking and is losing money. The whiners relented and allowed the ramped room with the handicapped bathroom to be smoking allowed. That room is usually standing room only, especially during NASCAR and football weekends. One bartender whines about the extra work of having to deal with that room, the rest of the bartenders want that to be the no-smoking room and return the Post to how it was before. So they have more customers during the week, when the one whiny bartender doesn't work.
“...doing about 40% better than when it was a smoking post...”
Good for the post.
I didn’t call you any names, just stated the fact you support the government intervention where it doesn’t belong because it suits you. If you want to label yourself because of that, so be it.
“Adults come here for discourse so if you cant handle it when you are caught and called out for being an ignorant liar then maybe you need to go to DU where the rest of the liberal children hang out.”
That’s the biggest LOL of all.
It’s clearly evident that you don’t qualify as an adult in any of the social circles you inhabit.
Sorry hon, but you did, somewhere back up the thread but I don’t have time to look for it...... I’ve got to pack! :)
There are many stories of businesses going out and people loosing jobs from this ban. But of course the media suppressed most of them. One of our popular restaurants actually built a take out window hoping to regain the clientele who smoke in hopes they'd "pick up" and eat at home. It didn't work.
Big dog. And....It eats as much as a human and its food is very special and expensive.
