Texans Stick With Cruz Despite Defeat in Washington
New York Times ^ | October 18, 2013 | MANNY FERNANDEZ

Michael Stravato for The New York Times
Bruce Labay, a businessman in El Campo, Texas, on Friday. Mr. Labay expressed his support
for Senator Ted Cruz by attaching plastic foam cups to a fence.

HOUSTON — Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas and the face of the angry right, has been criticized, lambasted and lampooned for putting the nation through a 16-day government shutdown and the prospect of a financial default.

Bloomberg Businessweek put him on its cover as a mad hatter who defines how “crazy is the new normal.” Representative Peter T. King, a Republican from New York, has said Republican leaders need to go after Mr. Cruz and accused him of bringing the country “to the edge of ruin.”

In Texas, it is a different story.

Drivers speeding down a busy highway about 70 miles outside Houston have been greeted with two blunt messages that Bruce Labay put up at his oil field services business. One declared that Mr. Labay was tired of softhearted Republicans, though he used a more colorful adjective. The other read, “We Need More Republicans Like Ted Cruz.”

Mr. Labay, 55, made his signs by sticking 1,200 plastic foam cups, one by one, into the loops of his chain-link fence, a 90-minute project that filled much of the fencing around BL Oilfield Services in the town of El Campo.

“I was proud of him,” Mr. Labay said of the state’s junior senator. “I was proud he was a Texan. I wish they would have held firm, and we’d still be shut down.” .......

Come see us! But don’t hold Austin against the rest of Texas. It is an embarrassment.

Cruz is one of the very few in our government who is for the people, for America and intelligent enough to see what is going on in corrupt Washington. Unless and until more true Americans’ stand with him the nation will continue down the road to disaster. And that disaster is not far away.

“I reckon I’ll have to visit Texas soon.”

Well, I “reckon” you should, lol! As the commercial goes, “it’s like a whole other country”. Btw, if you should happen to be from one of those Commie blue states, check any Marxists attitudes you may posses at the border please :). God Bless Texas!

I love Texas. It’s the way Arizona used to be before we were invaded from the south and the west. Californians looking for work because they chased all the business away was the worst thing that ever happened to us. Beware Texas, the same may happen to you, I hope you are strong enough to overcome the liberal hoards.

I moved to Texas in July. I am very proud to say that I have Ted Cruz and Louie Gohmert representing me in Washington DC, instead of the Rats I had before in NC, David Price and Kay Hagan..... We need many more Teds and Louies IMO.....

The critters at the Old Grey Whore cannot comprehend why everyone doesn't agree with them!

What a bunch of losers!

And Matt Mackowiak is not an American, either. He is a RAT, feeding off of the GOPe.

The GOPe is not American and does not speak for America, either!

Another lousy political consultant from the Big Blue Anus, Austin. Just like Karl The Talking-Double Chin Rove.

Maybe you will be surprised to hear there are very good, conservative, Godly people who live in Austin....and doing great things through their churches to outreach liberal Austin.

There IS a remnant...even in Austin.

We ARE Texas, at least in the Spirit of the Alamo. America (USA) is starting to fade in the distance.

Peter King is Benedict Arnold in drag.

Cornyn is toast. Hopefully Texas will elect another Ted Cruz when Cronyn’s term is up.

I predict a wave of similar outcomes in red states and hopefully a few blue.

Many people don’t understand that TX is full of liberals; but many of the Hispanic liberals don’t vote in large numbers yet, the way they do in CA and NM.

Who is there to defeat Cornball? Remember Lincoln’s adage: “You can’t beat somebody with nobody.”

I hope he runs for President. After watching his filibuster, it was easy to see a true leader, one that this country needs badly. Go Ted!

And another lie that the Socialists media and politicians are allowed to go unchallenged trumpeting is that the Republicans caused the shutdown. No it was Obama and Reid that caused the shutdown. the House funded everything that required funding as was their authority under the Constitution. Reid and Obama refused to accept it. Each time I hear someone say that the Republicans caused the shutdown, I correct them, though I doubt if it does any good.
