I was in Houston in 1978 and 1979. I was at the Astrodome on Monday night when the Oilers played the Steelers. Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell were in the broadcast booth, Earl Campbell, Bum Phillips and Terry Bradshaw were on the field. The golden age of Monday Night Football. The Oilers had already wrapped up the Wildcard but beat the Steelers in the fourth quarter. There was nothing like football in the Astrodome.

Was x-raying pipe there at about that time. I’ll always remember Bum for the story about him teaching Earl Campbell how to read and write. A truly great sportsman.

I saw Earl Campbell and the Oilers play the Rams on Sept 24, 1978. The Rams won 10-6.
