It's only a minor bug release ... that requires a complete rearchitecting of the system.
Yup, been there done that. The fun times are when you have one team trying to finish off the system that everyone on the project side knows is going to fail while a second team is concurrently working on the "bug-release" system that's supposed to succeed.
