DEMS PUSH TO TAKE UP AMNESTY, SAY BOEHNER WILL CAVE

On Thursday, President Obama took to the White House podium to triumphantly announce the end of the government shutdown. In doing so, he proclaimed that he wanted to push forward with other legislative priorities, including a budget, immigration reform, and the long-stalled pork-laden farm bill. “[I]n the coming days and weeks, we should sit down and pursue a balanced approach to a responsible budget, a budget that grows our economy faster and shrinks our long-term deficits further,” Obama stated. Historically, “balanced” has been code for tax increases.

Why don’t you write Speaker Boehner to encourage him to pronounce the Senate’s Immigration Bill is “D.O.A.” in the House?

Few people seem to know that the Senate bill has never been presented to the House. If the Dems did, it would be blue-slipped and sent back to the Senate requesting them to modify it by taking out the appropriation language before it could be taken up by the House.

The strategy now for the pro-amnesty supporters is to pass an immigration bill or bills in the House. These bills can then be grouped together and sent to conference with the Senate. The resultant bill that comes out of the conference will look a lot like the Senate bill. The bill will then be passed by both Houses with the majority being Dems aided by a significant number of Reps.

The message to Boehner and the Reps in the House is NO IMMIGRATION BILL PERIOD. Goodlatte and Cantor are preparing a bill that will serve as the Trojan Horse for the Gang of 8 bill. They must be stopped.

RE :”Don't bet on it. Cantor and Goodlatte are busy working on a Rep version of the Dream Act. The Reps want more guest workers, which is why they have already passed the STEM Act in the Judiciary Committee. The GOPe and many other Reps are in the pocket of their corporate paymasters., The GOP is busy building a Trojan Horse that can go to conference with the Senate. “

I sure wont bet on it right now, I am only going by the stuff I read here giving it the ‘Does it make sense?’ test. I have no special info on that.

The House eventually caving and passing whatever Reid sent him in a CR was something I knew for sure would happen, I posted it many times here in comments. It was sure thing,.

The problem Obama has is that Cantor/Bohner/Ryan have zero incentive to try to pass a bill that Reid can get Dems to vote for in Senate, even after a conference. Every GOP in house is mad now.

Even if they pass a immi bill that 95% of freepers curse, that doesnt mean that Senate Dems will vote for it.

This is Key : In this case Bohner doesnt get singularly blamed by Americans for blowing up the US economy and defaulting on US debt if Obama never gets a immi bill.

There is a little problem, Boehner is a drunk and cannot be relied upon.
Seriously, I recall approx two; MAYBE three years ago when Boehner and Reid were speaking at a Jewish/Isreali function in DC; Boehner came out smashed, it was obvious and embarrassing. Reid followed him up and trashed the right and Boehner himself. Now, ask yourself, do drunks make the best decisions in the world? Only God, the Democrats and Boehner know what his skeletons are at this point. He does a good job right up until its cocktail hour, then all bets are off and that is when the rats make their best deals. We could very well not have a country this time next year at the rate this "leadership" is going. I'm tired of hearing the old schtick of "long term" strategy, etc..etc.. Boehner and the Republicans (minus a few hold the line on principle types) are NO different than run of the mill democrats and it has been said HERE for years and many have been trounced on for saying so. Guess those posters chickenssssss..........are coming hoooooome......to roost.

I do. It is a fact.

The problem Obama has is that Cantor/Bohner/Ryan have zero incentive to try to pass a bill that Reid can get Dems to vote for in Senate, even after a conference. Every GOP in house is mad now.

The prize for the GOP is an increase in the guest worker programs. It is the reason Zuckerberg met on the Hill with Boehner, Cantor, and others a few weeks ago. There is a lot of pressure coming from the corporations who sent a letter to the GOP demanding an immigration reform bill.

Don't be fooled by the rhetoric. These guys know how to do the Kabuki dance and feign outrage while actually working with the other side on how best to fool the electorate. One of the reasons both parties hate Cruz and Lee is that they exposed these little games of phony votes to fool and deceive.

Even if they pass a immi bill that 95% of freepers curse, that doesnt mean that Senate Dems will vote for it.

They will vote for any bill that comes out of conference. It is a given.

This is Key : In this case Bohner doesnt get singularly blamed by Americans for blowing up the US economy and defaulting on US debt if Obama never gets a immi bill.

LOL. Boehner could care less. He probably won't even run next year.

RE :”They will vote for any bill that comes out of conference. It is a given. “

I dont believe that at all. Definitely wrong.

They will absolutely reject any bill that has no citizenship in it.

They will reject a guest worker without citizenship.

Reid wont even put one up.

I am pretty sure that Bohner will do that on immigration. He wont put a immi-bill up without GOP majority support.

I was posting here from the start that he would do that with CR but I am pretty sure he wont do that with immi-amnesty.

More recent, I even got called defeatist for being right here: Boehner's Shutdown End-game play (you won't like it) 10/15/2013

“On Thursday, President Obama took to the White House podium to triumphantly announce the end of the government shutdown. In doing so, he proclaimed that he wanted to push forward with other legislative priorities, including a budget”

Obama is not looking for a budget deal. He already got what he wanted. He’s been given permission for NO NATIONAL DEBT LIMIT until Feb 7th. No matter how much the deficit and the borrowing grows between now and then, he will, as he has done EVERY YEAR - NOT NEGOTIATE, never agree to a compromsie on HIS spending, wait and create another 11th hour crisis, with the simple phony threat - default looms, and his demand to resolve it - raise the debt limit or again have no debt limit.

When Obama says: “[I]n the coming days and weeks, we should sit down and pursue a balanced approach to a responsible budget, a budget that grows our economy faster and shrinks our long-term deficits further,”, you can translate that as a budget approach that grows the taxes to match his spending - period. AND when he says “shrinks our long term deficits further it is NOT about the revenue side, which is growing in the current tax regime, but that it - revenue - will never grow Obama enough to match the kind of spending his plans and programs are increasing federal expenses to.

If it comes out of conference, it will have some path to citizenship. And it is not the guest workers on temporary worker visas that are the sticking point, it is the 11 to 20 million illegal aliens already here. Goodlatte has already said that he will support some sort of legalization for them and that deporting them is not an option.

Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here, the object of their crime, is amnesty. Citizenship is just the cherry on top.

I don't know what you are basing your view on, but I can tell you based on what I have heard from several Congressional offices over the past few weeks along with attending meetings where folks like Lou Barletta and Steve King spoke that we are on a razor's edge when it comes to a comprehensive immigration bill.

I know that a majority of the GOP want an increase in the guest worker programs, increased border security, and a system to track and deport visa overstays. The issue of citizenship can be finessed in any bill. It could start with immediate legalization followed by various metrics for the border security. There could be language in a bill saying that there will be no path to citizenship until those metrics are met. And that same bill could have an increase in the guest worker programs similar to the one in the Gang of 8 bill. The majority of Reps would probably vote for it.

And the Dems will sign on to it knowing that they still have the issue to use against the Reps and allowing them to say that they have legalized the status of the lawbreakers, an important step that allows them to stay and work here.

Exactly. Obama has removed the debt limit ceiling as a power of Congress. He knows that Congress will always fold and increase the limit. There is no need to compromise or concede anything.

But the attacks and insults made publicly against Bohner over the past few weeks at some times more than Cruz was getting has not put him in a mood to give Reid and Obama anything,

he gave them everything and then some. He gave away Congressional powers to the executive.

Let me make it more clear. Two simple points.

1) Any immi bill wo path to citizenship would die in the Senate. So that is a safe poison pill. You said the Senate would pass anything, and I gave a clear example that they wont.,

2) Bohner will not put an immi bill up for a vote unless he has a majority of GOP. Not even after conference. He never made that same promise for those other 5 bills, but he did with immi-amnesty.

So those two together make it very difficult for Obama to get anything.

I am Not saying to not oppose a bill. Just telling you Obama has a huge climb with this one. Its not the shutdown battle.

I hope that the Speaker uses that amnesty bill as a HOOK to present some choice comments on Obama’s super-high unemployment rates.

America’s middle class NEEDS more jobs. Obama-nonsense like “amnesty” won’t deliver those jobs.

Personally I had no doubt that it would end the way it did.
I posted it many times here before the shutdown started.
There was no doubt in my mind that he would do what he did.

And like with the tax bill there's lots of whining but I aint seeing any Tea party House GOPs stepping up to take his job from him,

If every freeper who posted that Obama would cave first was willing and able bet me a $1, I would be moving next to Romney. (OK , a little exaggeration there)
