I agree. However, regarding the soveregnity of nations, the EU today is like the US before the Civil War.
It can be argued that in those days a Governor had more power than the president, and people thought of themselves as Virginians or New Yorkers first, and US citizens second - a distant second.
Let’s see what it takes before the EU comes to mean, relative to it’s internal states, what US now means. We’re in a different world now. It’s possible the EU may lose it’s “civil war”. And make no mistake, it may not involve actual guns, but such a test will come.
