For some of us military weenies...writing on a deck of cards, meant we were “2 digit midgets”...meaning we were going to catch the Freedom Bird and leave country in under 52 days.

how many mls/hr multiplied by how many drops/ml iv set
divided by how many minutes = how many drops/minute

8kg patient needs 5 ml/kg/hr =40 ml/hr
multiplied by a 15 drops/ml iv set = 600

600 divided by 60 minutes = 10drops per minute or about 2-3 drops every 15 seconds or 1 drop every 5 seconds.

I’m an old fart. I work with animals-our patients range from 1 kg to 12 kgs.

So there. Thats one way of calculating iv drip rates. The hard/old fashioned way.

I hear ya. She starting her hospital rotations and just finished her psych rotations. There is a big demand for RN’s around here and they were recruiting before she started the official Nursing college. I’m glad she’s found her passion and just hope the Country isn’t ruined enough for my kids and “future” grandkids. All four of my kids have found their passion. I’m grateful for that.

Did you stay in engineering?

I went the BE route but had a dual career that bridged into programing. Got to say I loved my work. Semi-retired now but involved in game design with a small group from Brasil.

I quit drinking 3 yrs ago; work-up too many times naked, on the hood of my Jeep, with the keys MIA. LOL, just kidding. Maybe I should start drinking again so I can take advantage of the sidewalk’s curves?

Yes, recession hit in mid 80’s and around here no one was hiring Chem E’s. Stupid me had no idea you could only get a job in Cali or Texas. So, I went back to school (grad), got married (I was working doing accounting and going to school) and took the Mommy track. So my BSE is just that at this stage, BS.

Shutters do work, and my Folks have used them a couple times when Blizzards of ‘93/’96/’03 and TS Lee blew thru the area.

Curves make it interesting and each turn gives a different view of landscape array. Straight sidewalks are boring, IMO.

That’s an interesting insight. I’ve never thought about the curving in that way (of viewing the landscape differently). I like that.

Thanks; tomorrow’s pics will be the completed 6-week job and I’ll be so glad when it’s finished... until the next project. Retirement is so much fun. It for dad, so it’s well worth it.

Four weeks before graduation in 71, I had job offer and two weeks later it was rescinded. American Can laid off half its engineering staff so no noobs needed. Worked for an insurance company in a field I never considered, fire protection, and very fortunately I loved it, enough to start my own consulting and design business years later. Eh, but that’s ancient history now.
