WASHINGTON — The former Army captain who received the Medal of Honor on Tuesday has asked to return to active duty in the Army, a rare move by an officer who has lived to wear the military's highest award.
Two U.S. officials tell The Associated Press that William D. Swenson has submitted a formal request to the Army and officials are working with him to allow his return.
Swenson was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in the White House Tuesday afternoon for risking his life to recover bodies and save fellow troops during a lengthy battle against the Taliban in Afghanistan near the Pakistan border in 2009.

Can't have a "mere" MOH winner outshine the ONE...
Hmmm! This is odd. He called out his superiors for not sending air support and ammo during the firefight. Maybe he just wants the see the generals initiate a salute since he has a MOH. LOL! Honor, courage, commitment. Maybe he didn’t want to get out but was disillusioned by his treatment and the loss of his MOH packet. Anyway, bless him for wanting to serve some more. Not likely to be seeing combat methinks.
Amen...I’m a little surprised because he spoke out against the ROE and brass that wouldn’t give air or artillery support during that battle.
I believe he had an Army career in mind from the schools he attended but left the service when his enlistment ended.
I wish him the best and God bless him, our military needs men of his caliber.

From my understanding he hasn't been working since he left active duty. I don't know why, but perhaps there is more to the story.
