The money they take out of our paychecks every week would be a good start. We still pay income taxes in this country despite the shutdown. And not all of our income goes to servicing the debt. It's all a matter of priorities, the government doesn't borrow every penny. The only reason the military won't get paid is if the pResident decides they aren't a high enough priority compared to his cronies. It's time DC learned to pay the bills without another credit card from the Bank of Chi-com.
The sky was supposed to fall during the sequester, an some cuts to the military were maid. Yet the administration still managed to fund more boondoggle projects than anyone can count.

By law non-discretionary spending has to be paid. Defense is considered discretionary spending. For Defense to be funded before Social Security checks, Congress would have to pass legislation to do it.
