I have fond memories of Asheville tho I imagine I would not like it anymore.
I worked at a Summer retreat maybe 15 miles East of Asheville. There was no interstate and we would drive there on Tunnel Road. Go through the Beaucatcher tunnel and park near the All Sports Store. Sometimes we would go a few blocks South to JC Penneys but usually we would just walk East on Patton Ave.
After browsing through several stores we would make it to Pack Square and look through Finkelsteins. I would very often buy something as Finkelstein had just the sort of things I liked.
Sometimes we would go watch the Tourists (for a few years the Orioles) then back to the Tourists. Historic McCormic Field was as nice a ball park as you will ever see.
I sort of hate to imagine what Asheville is now.
I’m guessing this is Asheville North Carolina?
Is it too much to ask to post the frigging state?

Oh we’ll, sounds like a place to avoid.
Did you work at the YMCA’s Blue Ridge Assembly or Ridgecrest maybe? Or one of the many camps in Black Mt.?
I had the pleasure of living there beginning about 2 or 3 years before they blew down the mountain which took all the traffic out of the tunnel. I loved that they had signs up that read NO HONKING and on a Friday night everyone was blowing their horn as they drove through.
