SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
KSLA News 12 obtained video of overflowing shopping carts, excited shoppers, and empty shelves throughout Walmart in Springhill, Louisiana. The frenzy was reportedly created this weekend by a food stamp glitch in the system. That glitch allowed EBT card users to seemingly shop without a limit. But there was a limit the whole time.
According to the state, the retailer is on the hook for the overages.
The Department of Children and Family Services oversees those benefits, called SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
DCFS tells KSLA News 12 that no EBT card is ever limitless, and that when these outages happen, the retailer has a responsibility to implement emergency procedures. Those procedures include placing a phone call and verbally approving a spending limit for the customer. Trey Williams with DCFS says some retailers chose not to do that.
"These businesses are only reimbursed for the benefits on the card, and they are completely responsible. So if someone had 50 dollars on their card, and they spent 100, the retailer, in this case Walmart, would be on the hook for the other fifty.
So, isn't this fraud? The state has a way of tracking welfare fraud with GPS based software. DCFS knows who purchased what, and how much was spent. That information is available to be passed on to law enforcement, should it be requested. The information is there, the question is now, what will they do with it?
these democrat parasites are destroying the USA
these democrat parasites are destroying the USA
and when the economic crash occurs....these entitlement junkies are going to be the zombies...
Democrats = responsible for the govt. shutdown
Democrats = responsible for the zombie apocalypse
great!
Looks like wallyworld in Philadelphia was the smartest one. They just closed and lost business for a few hours.
Walmarts in Louisiana that stayed open with ‘unlimited’ cards and now have empty shelves are on the hook for that merchandise.
Short Walmart.
The one in Hazlhurst was letting people have $50/day charges too. Every EBT holder in our county must’ve turned up. It was wall to wall people. The meat went first.
Wonder just how much grocery merchandise walmart let walk out the door to avoid a wholesale riot and looting event?
The store probably should be responsible, in line after the card holder...
For each customer? Isn't that like logging onto the Husseincare website?
.
I wouldn't.
Gonna be lots of asses on the line on this one. HUGE online chatter all over the state of Louisiana. So far, the Gannett rag in Shreveport has not printed word one about it. I know a Gannett reporter who tweeted the story out on her personal twitter account Saturday night. Maybe they’ll allow her to cover it.
The store has the identity of the users of the EBT cards so I would think that’s who the retailer should attempt to recover from. But they’ll probably just write it off.
that’s stealing and they knew it
Jail and imprison every single one of these evil thieves
What about WalMart stockholders, of which I am one? We supposed to just suck it up?
Don’t worry, we’ll pay 1 way or the other.
Its no different than shoplifters driving up prices for the rest of us.
... or ...
Let the ferals shop 'til they drop, eat the difference, and end the day with an intact store and healthy workers.
Your pick.
It’s just whitey’s money. It’s all good.
a call to where? some government taped message?
It’s actually felony fraud.
Who will have the guts to pursue it? Lot of ‘politics’ involved...
Sadly, yes. How much of walmart’s revenue is from the EBT holder group of people.
Something about lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.
It’s telling that Target didn’t have this problem. Target is, by and large, not located in majority EBT holder areas.
FWIW I shop at Walmart all the time. However, Saturday hubby didn’t let me go after we heard about the EBT card failure. He didn’t want me and the kiddos in the middle of a riot. He’s a smart man.
The state should average the overspending over the next year and dock the guilty accounts montly
