You have to make masonry look clean but rustic.
If you want smooth, pour concrete.

My former uncle in law had a back yard that he cared for such that he build a 5 hole putting gren on it. Every Thanksgivings day, he had a putting chllenge for the family. A couple pro courses tried to buy the grass from hi to use on their greens.
