I was wondering the same. Being they are aimed to the side they are obviously meant to scan parked traffic or traffic as they pass the squad. Not sure at all what it’s meant to look for. Radiation or explosive detection? Doesn’t look like a license plate reader as those are usually mounted on the roof.
Those are video/audio cams designed to pick up the crowd and anything else going on in the area. They’re digital so totally capable of face recognition, etc. just like the Google cams that photo your neighborhood. And since they’re vehicle mounted so have plenty of power and are most likely streaming the video in real time to a central monitor facility-—like the Kenyan’s ready room.
