Iowa officials have implemented an emergency plan of issuing vouchers to low-income residents after computer problems caused electronic payments for food stamps to fail across the country.
The Iowa Department of Human Services says it already had a contingency plan in place for such emergencies.
Iowans who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and find that their electronic benefit card isn't working can fill out a voucher and receive $50 daily in food assistance. DHS says the contingency plan has no financial impact to grocers.
Wendy Rickman, who administers DHS' food stamp program, says the plan makes certain that people have access to food each day.
DHS says problems were resolved Saturday night and people can again electronically access benefits. More than 400,000 Iowans receive food assistance each month.
Wonderful, we can integrate the food stores again! A minor but important benefit is that these stores will increase their margins enormously thanks to the Federal Government.
Seems to be something about mutual interaction here but not really sure...heh.
50.00 a day not to work?
I am a sucker...
$50 a day? Thats over $1500 a month. What’s next? Ruth’s Chris gift certificates?
We fortunately still have some of those fools!
They are either the older folks that still have a sense of morality or young folks from religious families. Seems that either are few and far in between though.
After that, well you are on your own...
People need new glasses or reading skills or something.
America is truly the Land of the “Free”. Everything is free these days if you want to freeload off of the taxpayers.
$50 daily in food assistance
$50 a day? What are they eating? Better yet, how do I get on this gravy train? I'm hungry, too, and 50 a day ought pretty much cover it.
No kidding. You’d have to try hard to spend $50 a day even with a family of four. We could go back to eating those red things that come from animals. The name escapes me....
Exactly. It’s getting to be a why bother to work anymore kind of thing. I remember Russia in the mid-90’s having a similar attitude in many ways. Oh well. Work if you feel like it.
Holy cow! $1500/month food subsidy!
Yeah, I’m one of those dummies. Too proud to say I “need” it.
“$50 a day? Thats over $1500 a month. Whats next? Ruths Chris gift certificates?”
And that’s only the food voucher. When you add to that Section 8 housing, Medicaid, WIC, school meals, possibly disability, etc. you’re easily looking at another couple thousands a month.
Fifty dollars a day? No wonder food stamp recipients eat so much expensive fast food, instead of the cheaper nutritious food that you have to cook yourself.
When I was a kid that red stuff was for rich people, we lived on Beans and Potatoes, with home made bread or corn bread.
Beans and potatoes are near $1.00 a pound, fruits are more. Bread can run from $2.00 to $6.00 a loaf and yet people are not complaining about the cost of living, because the MSM refuses to tell us we should be unhappy.
That comes to $1,500 a month for food!
Enjoy your ramen and pb & j sandwiches, citizen.
I was thinking about this when I heard that the EBT cards weren’t working and that people were getting $50 vouchers.

That’s a LOT of food (for at least 4-5 people) for around $20 that could be prepared by anyone...it’s better than I eat most days, as we both work well over 60 hours per week running our own business. Silly us.
GTH, Democrats, GTFH.
$50.00 a day must be for gourmet food......guess they are not expected to prepare it. Too much work.
> What kind of FOOL actually goes to a job and works hard these days?
Unfortunately US, the suckers who pay for all the benefits of the Obamacare lovers...
