How will using a linux pc stop Zerocare.gov from capturing your IP address? Honest question.

Ah. Two things. Hackers in general with a virus that captures my keyboard activity and Big Brother who logs my ip address.

About the ip address — it would be surprising if the feds logged your ip address considering that people might do exactly what you suggest — use the library, the wifi at McDonalds or Panera Bread, frequent changes to the ip address by your ISP, etc. I personally would avoid “open” areas like the Library, or free wifi, because those places are less secure because I don’t control the infrastructure.

Some software, games, etc. do log your ip address but usually it is a bit of a pain to track when it changes and always forces an update to their database.

Thanks for the response. I've been reading about the problems with the Zerocare website recently, and one of the chief concerns (and reports) has been that, as soon as one logs onto that site, it captures the user's IP address, which is then correlated against the user's name, address, phone records, social security number, etc.

I'm not technically astute enough to personally determine whether those reports are accurate or not, but I do have a fair degree of trust in some of those I've seen making such claims. Because of that, I'm highly reluctant to log onto the site. I have no intention of making it easier for Big Brother to single me out for 'special attention'.
