That was some video. My favorite part was the angry behemoth who ranted on and on at a recording.

Unfortunately, when the SHTF she'll be able to feed off her fat for at least three months.

Someday, they will stop working and never start up again. The riots will make the deaths in WWII seem insignificant.

They could pawn their Air Jordans, fake gold bling and rap music.

Valuable teaching moment here.....

Yeah, those who rely and depend on the government are destined for disappointment.

No problem...
those of us who actually pay for such government free bees just need to step up and catch the bill at the cash register for these poor people and turn in the receipt for a tax reduction. Same difference.

People can not buy non-food products with food stamps. Most people who receive assistance are not on drugs. Most are not satisfied with having to need assistance. If the poor have the power to manipulate the government then the Easter bunny is in charge of the geo-physics department at MIT

"Hopefully, just hopefully, some will have the seed planted in the back of their mind and consider doing for themselves. "

Never. Happen. Ever seen people at an out of service ATM? They'll push that "enter" button until their finger hurts on the off chance it just might work. How about the guy in a trance, mindlessly feeding quarters into the one-armed bandits in Vegas? Psychologists working with lab rats, and animal trainers in general know this as the "variable schedule reward" system. Most effective method known for hardwiring repetitive behavior into a subject. Keep doing as directed by a handler, and sometimes you get your "reward." Sometimes you don't. The subject comes to understand the only way to get a reward at all, is to keep doing as directed by the handler. No EBT today? Maybe tomorrow. "Work is fo' sukas."

I'll bet that zero Hispanic women with EBT cards have a problem cooking beans and good for them!!!

That is true and in general third worlders can do just fine with stuff right out of the ground (or pod). My wife, from India, knows all the tricks for food preparation in primitive conditions. I would be more like the helpless EBT card holders (but do know you need to soak beans and lentils).

Whiggas and Niggas in the parking lot at the Safeway in LaPlata, Md.,
very upset. EBT cards not working.
I couldn’t muster any sympathy, actually I rather enjoyed it.
Seriously though, it’s very easy to extrapolate how bad it will be it gets real.

Another reason to keep a few hundred bucks cash on hand at all times in case electronic CC/ATM transactions go down.

Cash is king.

wings from the deli aren’t essential if you’re on the public dole.

You're right - and you can't buy them with a Food Stamp EBT card.

I have no clue why this is a "news" story. The system goes down and it has nothing to do with the so-called "shutdown" of the government.

I was in Food Lion about a month or so ago and the EBT system went down and no one got bent out of shape, until it was determined that the EBT system going down took down all electronic transactions - then there was a bit of angst, from folks using debit/credit cards (like me.)

You are one of the few who actually gets what the game is. The food manufacturers/retailers have a guaranteed clientele, with guaranteed steady paychecks from uncle sam. With this sort of consistent customer base one of the advantages for them is that they can anticipate their financial scenarios with more predictability. The profit margin in the grocery business is very low - something like 1-3% - they're not going to care who someone is, what they buy, how expensive it is or how much of it, just as long as they get their money from the government, it's all good for them.

We lived in a welfare town for 18 LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG years and saw it all. Those kids went hungry.

And when they do eat, it's junk food. Some years ago we took another family with us to a buffet dinner on our dime. They have four kids. So I'm behind the 10 and 12 year-old kids watching what food they got for their plates. All crap and sugary treats. I told them to put salad and veggies on their plates. They gave me a disgusted look, and said they never eat that stuff. I asked what about mom and pop? They said no, none of us eat that stuff. Ever. My kids thought it was pathetic, as mine eat balanced meals. Three of those other four kids are now grown with kids of their own, repeating the cycle of junk food (and being poor), except one gal who joined the Navy and got straightened out (the only successful one who is now a nurse with three kids).

and I remember noticing at the time that all those women had their hair and nails done. Where do they get the money for that?

Did you ever think they did it themselves or a friend did them? Except in the spring and early summer (and right now because of yard work,) my nails always look just so - and I have NEVER paid to have them done.

I'm not denying what you are saying is often true, but you can't make such a judgement without knowing the entire story. Not that long ago I was using food stamps. Lots of things in our lives changed because of the drastic drop in household income (which happens when both regular incomes disappear) but one thing that didn't change was our appearance in general. Now that our income is almost back where it was and we are not getting any assistance, our general appearance still hasn't changed.

Not everyone getting assistance is a total leech.

Low information voters are flooding social media with the idea that the Food stamps are no more because of

1)The Republicans
2)The TEA party

I know.

The biggest problem I have noticed on facebook, is the people claiming such nonsense have no clue how the system works.

Unfortunately, judging from many comments I’ve seen on Free Republic and not just on this particular thread, is most people have NO clue how the system works.
