I don't blame the recipients as much as the politicians who gifted all this in the first place. The food stamp people grew up with this kind of "diet". They aren't going to suddenly change to a fruits and vegetables menu when the other stuff is still available.
I grew up on that same diet (pop french fries, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, candy, pizza and mac and cheese), but when I got up to 159 pounds and looked at my lard butt and rolls of fat in the mirror, I changed my ways.
They can too. However, I think some of them think blubber is attractive.
