Food stamp fiasco results in declined benefits at some Coast, statewide stores (MS)

Food stamp users across Mississippi and neighboring states were being declined Saturday morning as they tried to use their EBT, or Electronic Benefit Transfer, cards at grocery, dollar and convenience stores.

A Sam's Club member services representative, however, said the cards would work if purchases were broken down into smaller increments worth less than $90, but one food stamps user said his card wouldn't work for a $4 purchase.

Just read this on twitter: Genevieve Walls ‏@LustForLuv "If you see a person trying to pay by #EBT at the store tonight and they can’t due to system downtime, do the right thing and pay for them."

It is sad that a very red state that has been red for decades has a sine welfare recipient. We need to really clean up red states before we take on the blue states.

I grew up on that same diet (pop french fries, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, candy, pizza and mac and cheese), but when I got up to 159 pounds and looked at my lard butt and rolls of fat in the mirror, I changed my ways.

They can too. However, I think some of them think blubber is attractive.

But if someone can work, yet WILL NOT work, then he’s left to the consequences of his actions (or inactions in this case).

I am still more inclined to blame the system, because it is the easy and unlimited benefits that are causing people to not want to work.

Obama ordered that work requirements for able adults without children be removed from the requirements for food stamps.

Many recipients would be out looking for work if it were not for these policies that encourage laxity and dependence.

"It’s amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.

People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we’re compassionate we’ll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint."

What do you mean “BLAME THE SYSTEM”? Is someone holding a gun to their heads FORCING them to take the freebies?

The problem is nowadays...Many people don’t have a WORK ethic or a sense of SHAME.

I hope it’s more than a few.

I don’t think people who have tried to live a healthy lifestyle should be burdened with paying for those who haven’t.

Charity, real charity, fosters empathy in the giver and humility in the recipient, and is a tool God uses to spread His grace.

Welfare turns people into shells. They are not grateful; in fact, I really believe much of the wanton violence the dependent class engages in is an expression of a horror they feel but don't quite understand.

Lol, at your first world poverty icon worshiping self-righteous economic illiterate bomb creator who does not understand how civilization crashes.. Perhaps making people comfortable in their poverty is the wrong way to go about it. Those on first world “hard times” should be relegated to MREs and that is it. Cable bill or food should be the norm, not the taxpayer subsidizing both. Exactly who is the thief in that equation?

Define poor in the United States with plenty of opportunity compared to any third world hellhole that devoured any chance of establishing civilization. Choices are a fundamental problem in this first world Country, not the lack of opportunity to actual become self-reliant. Your Biblical thesis lacks merit in this first world Country called United States of America.

This isn’t a Third World famine.

This is a 12-24 hr outage. Is every person shopping today leaving a completely empty refrigerator or pantry at home?

A can of beans. Peanut butter. Bread. Insert staple of choice here. I confidently predict every one of them will survive the night.

This is not the difference between living and dying, eating or not eating. This is the delay that millions of responsible people experience when there’s a snowstorm, when their flight is delayed, when the power fails, etc. They make due with what they have and delay their expectations and in turn their gratification.

The Gimme Gimme Gimme culture is as impatient as it is greedy. It fails to plan for contingencies. It faults others for its utter inability to think beyond its next meal - literally.

Dehumanizing is dehumanizing there is no justification. No one has the moral superiority to judge others, we are all called to love one another.

If we want others to believe we as conservatives have the better ideas to help individuals and our country they will never be heard or viewed by the other side because of our hateful and mean-spirited comments.

I am not going to argue with anyone here, especially you. We can’t resort to name calling and demoralization to get our ideas across, we are better then that.

Sometimes the best way to love someone is to give them a swift kick in the butt.
