Pro-gun groups plan 'Guns Save Lives' day on Newtown massacre anniversary

In an attempt to 'own' the Dec. 14 anniversary of the slayings at Sandy Hook elementary school, a coalition of gun lovers is trying to rebrand the day. Family members of Newtown victims say the anniversary should be about their loved ones — not politics.

In an appalling bid to “own” the Dec. 14 anniversary of the Newtown slayings, a coalition of gun lovers has announced plans to declare that horrific date “Guns Save Lives” day.

“We are going to use the day to get our views out,” said Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation. “We don’t want (pro gun-control groups) own that day. ... We are gonna be there first.”

It was a proclamation that had people who lost family members at the hands of a crazed gunman at Sandy Hook elementary school shuttering.

This is outrageous! Psychotic killers should be able to kill without any fear of the victims defending themselves! Just who does this guy think he is?

Sorry. Your "politics" allowed an armed man to enter unchecked by armed resistance.

It's now about OUR children and the fact that we want the right to protect them with whatever means necessary. If that means guns then, yes, the day should serve as an example of how a gun could have stopped the killer.

As a mommy I really can’t imagine anything more tragic than losing a child. I would require medication. However, their grief and guilt from not properly protecting thier children does not give them the ability to take away a right that God has granted me as a way to protect my own babies.

They should ask themselves why is it OK for our public SERVANTS - Presidents, Senators, Mayors, even City council members - to be protected by arms but not our KIDS? NOT our kids? WHAT?

This is how you prevent school shootings FOREVER.....

Its going to surprise many conservatives but we actually have the moral high ground here, yes the MORAL HIGHGROUND. But Conservative Inc that money and time wasting gaggle of suited pukes exist to bestow the moral highground to the likes of the civilian anti-self defense racketeers.

Not like the politics of the gun controllers who have been so dominant in Newtown since the shooting, right???

Too late. When these people joined Obama to use this shooting for gun laws, they gave up any right to keep politics out of it. They put the politics in it. Not us.

They used the deaths of children to attempt to destroy the 2nd amendment. That is despicable. We will point out that dancing in the blood of children for political gain is a losing method.

...plans to declare that horrific date “Guns Save Lives” day.

That is literally every single day of the year. FBI statistics estimate there are between 1,000,000 not a typo one million to as many as 5,000,000 yes five million defensive uses of firearms every year in the US alone. The most often quoted number is right around 2.5 million defensive uses per year. No, there are not exact numbers because only a fraction of defensive firearms uses get reported to the police, and few of the uses reported generate a report or anything that would get pushed up the chain to the FBI.

So yes, the thousands of wrongful deaths every year from illegal firearms use are tragic. So are the thousands of deaths from other causes such as traffic accidents, medical conditions that are entirely preventable/treatable, etc. The cold hard truth is it is a cold hard dangerous world out there. While firearms contribute to that, they also protect us from that.

The would be gun-grabbers don't like to think about, let alone talk about this but if they are successful, then so will be literally millions of criminals. Without firearms, literally millions of dangerous situations will turn violent and the victims will be relatively defenseless. That is an indefensible position. To all you lib lurkers out there who want to rid us of our firearms I ask this. How many of the inevitable tens of thousands of rapes, murders, and violent assaults are YOU PERSONALLY willing to take responsibility for if you get your way? 1, 10, 1000? None? If none, then STFU on "gun control." Oh, and if you do want to take responsibility for some of these rapes, murders, and violent attacks -- seek mental health treatment immediately. Please.

We all should be getting ready for the gun grabber onslaught due on that ‘anniversary’ - do I dare suggest that there maybe some ‘coincidences’ around that date?
