Gallup: 52% of Republicans Say America Needs a 3rd Party

(CNSNews.com) - Fifty-two percent of Republicans say that America needs a third party, according to a newly released Gallup poll. Forty-nine percent of Democrats say the same thing.

"In fact,' said Gallup in its analysis of the poll, "this marks the first time that a majority of either party's supporters have said a third party is needed."

The Gallup survey, which interviewed 1,028 adults (18 and over) nationwide, asked: 'In your view, do the Republican and Democratic parties do an adequate job of representing the American people, or do they do such a poor job that a third major party is needed."

Overall, 60 percent said that a third party was needed, 26 percent said the Republicans and Democrats do an adequate job, and 14 percent said they had no opinion.

The 60 percent who said a third party was needed was the highest percentage giving that answer to Gallup since the polling company started asking the question back in 2003. The 26 percent who said the two major parties are doing an adequate is the lowest percentage who have given that answer.

Gallup did not publish any survey data about why those among the 60 percent think a third party is needed.

That’s it in a nutshell.

Anyone who understands math knows our future is rapidly being destroyed. That we can’t magically continue to do what we’re doing without the consequences ever coming due...

If 52% of the Republicans don't like the Republican Party, then the Republican Party is a dead horse.
I went to the original Gallup poll cited in the OP. Reading the results there, this is a realistic time to bulldoze the GOPe out of the way. Independents, as usual, strongly support a third party, but 52% of Republicans that are willing to abandon their party is a real death rattle.

Third Party ideas are supported by those who do not understand math. If you do not have the numbers to control the Republican Party, how on Earth are you going to win when EVERYONE votes in the General Election?

This is the essential truth, like it or not. The path is to take over the Republican party and push out the RINOs, not try a Third Party. Those of us who went Tea Party at the beginning knew this would takes years and many election cycles.

Free Republic has yet to jump off the GOP merry-go-round, somehow they think going in circles for decades is going to change the Republican Party.

40% conservative, 30% independent, 30% communist.

3-way, winner takes all. It is, in fact, the ONLY way we can win.

There are plenty on FR that will berate you if you say you aren't going to vote for the offered liberal(R).

They are fighting a losing battle. The Democratic wing of the Republican party is toast. The people staying home aren't coming back. And no amount of berating will make any difference.

"This keeps up and I’m not sticking around to watch it happen," Palin said.
Pretty straightforward to me. Change your ways or I'm outta here.

Don't forget, she's flirted with 3rd parties in the past. And she's far more libertarian-leaning than the Scoop Jackson democrats that run the GOP-e these days.

Fakes such as these "idiots" who mask as republicans are equally to blame, if not moreso!

A third party guarantees Democrats will control forever.

Forget it!

There is no way a third party will garner the voters to win...none....the public now is all about Personality Cult Politics and all the fluffy emotions they bring with it.

Further it's entirely a "give me" society. You have all the youth voters/ the minorities voting for whoever gives them the most entitlements. Who think no further then how to get the latest trendy item on their docket of wants..... You cannot just change the party without also changing the mindset of the public

You’re looking at it in intra-party terms and I don’t disagree with your analysis. I was commenting on the effects of Bush’s governance (or lack thereof) on the electorate. I won’t do the laundry list of his blunders, but they were legion, so much so that he destroyed the party’s brand on the national level.

Don’t want a third party if all it will do is split the vote and throw the election to the Demonrats. It would have to be a party that would appeal mightily to Republicans and Independents because Demos won’t go for it.

<...”A third party guarantees Democrats will control forever”....>

Yes, and the demorats have been staunch at dividing the party...from the looks of this thread it’s working.

There has to be another way and I think that Cruz is showing us how to do that.....along with Lee.

These negotiations on the debt etc. (bottom line Obamacare) both Cruz and Lee are trying to show the Republicans you cannot let the demorats breath....that you have to keep the boot on their necks.

The cartoon in your post #98 does sum it up accurately. So is the answer to position the party midway between the two poles? Don’t think so.
