I guess the bigger question is why do these so-called conservatives decide they have to “switch” to a more mainstream approach to get elected? Especially when it never works??

It's pure RINO myth to suggest that conservative approaches don't work, as history clearly has shown, and which is supported by the 40% of the voting populace that identifies with conservative principles, while only 20% identify as liberals.
The fashionable mainstream has mortgaged our children's and grand children's futures, from which they and we may not escape, absent war, starvations, destitution and pestilence, not to mention the destruction of their forefather's powerful country and its Constitution.
