For more than a week into a government shutdown, Paul Ryan kept a low profile amid the political uproar.
When he finally emerged, the time was ripe for someone with his conservative cred and fiscal bona fides to step in and try to corral his bucking Republican Party.
While a group of conservatives were driving the agenda in the quagmire over spending, Obamacare and the looming debt limit, Ryan dropped an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal outlining the Republican path forward.

Ryan is a low-life Statist pig. Do you think everything is politics?
Our Republic is being dismantled right before our eyes and this idiot Ryan thinks like a true Statist.
One has to be a fool to even consider Ryan a Conservative.
Ryan worships at the Alter of State Power.
Ryan voted for Medicare Part-D, No Child Left Behind, TARP, ethanol subsides and every bloated highway bill that came along.
No Conservative would ever cast such votes.
Ryan is positively BORING....he will go NOWHERE if he runs fr President.
Bingo....opening up SS now is STUPID....we WERE winning on Obamacare....Ryan is a NITWIT.....he was a DISAPPOONTMENT as a VP candidate also.
Ryan has no creds with Conservatives.
But he's still for amnesty!
Another RINO barf alert.
Remember, Ryan is typical of the Beltway set, Republican or Democrat.
He never had a real job. He started out as a Washington staffer and the got elected, a common path these days for those who end up ruling us in Washington.
Never made a payroll.
Never served in the military.
Never had a project due date.
Never had to punch a timecard.
For these people, whatever works to advance them politically is what counts. They don’t give a damn for the American people or their institutions. They are not fighting for America, they are fighting for who gets to control the political spoils system funded by the taxpayers.
I'm not sure what Ryan actually stepped in...but "coolly" in the Queen's English is still spelled with two "l"s. :)
Very true indeed. And that’s what ticks me off most about many pols. Which is why I’m in favor of term limits. People like Strom Thurmond and McCain would never be around so damn long. Who knows what their replacements would be like, but still..........
True enough I guess. But I meant savvy for him, not for us. :)
+10,000%!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Boehner, Cantor, and McCarthy are desperately looking for a way to surrender to Obama, and are now trying to use Ryan as a front guy to float this new trial balloon, in the mistaken belief that he still carries some weight with the TEA Party movement.
From what I read yesterday, Ryan is the guy that proposed means testing for Medicare. Wait until the Seniors wrap their brain around that one. Republicans get the blame again.
“...but “coolly” in the Queen’s English is still spelled with two “l”s. :)”
It’s not “coolie”?
