Gov. Jan Brewer said Wednesday that she does not want U.S. House Republicans to succeed in their bid to shut down the Affordable Care Act, saying it would devastate the state budget.
Brewer said she has never been a fan of Obamacare. And she pointed out she was among several governors who sued unsuccessfully to have it declared unconstitutional.
But the governor said once it was clear the law would take effect, she sought ways to have Arizona take advantage of a key provision rewarding states that expand their Medicaid programs. In this state, that is the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, which she described as the gold standard of Medicaid programs.
And she said that made it worthwhile to fight with members of her own Republican Party, to the point of forming an alliance with legislative Democrats, to push the plan through.
The bottom line is we need that money in our economy to save rural hospitals and jobs in the rural areas, the governor said, as well as making sure hospitals in metropolitan areas, where most AHCCCS patients are seen, get paid. Its all about jobs and getting back federal dollars that our taxpayers have paid to the federal government, to bring them home.
Brewer estimates the Affordable Care Act will produce $1.6 billion in payments a year to the states Medicaid program. And she said there is no direct cost to Arizona taxpayers, with the states share being paid by a tax on hospitals.

She took the drug that Obama was pushing and now she’s hooked. I used to have a lot more respect for her.
Maybe she’s setting up the brain dead DemocRATS. Get the haters to kill ObamaCare in order to stick it to Arizona. LOL! Just a thought. Yes. DemocRATS are THAT dumb.
The liberal socialist POS didn’t count on the free flow of information that comes from the Internet...nor did the MSM - they are all hacks -— time to rid ourselves of these idiots once and for all....
“In this state, that is the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, which she described as the gold standard of Medicaid programs. “
My wife is a nurse. To say this program is riddled with fraud and abuse doesn’t do justice to reality. She ought to be trying to cut it dramatically...
We’re going to hear more and more of this “you can’t get rid of it now” bs until it is finally killed.
No, talking about Jindal’s propensity to pick a great fight (threatening to disobey EPA and so on during BP spill) - but then backing down. Just an analogy....
That’s what happens when you sell your soul to the devil Ms Brewer. You let all us Arizonans down when you signed on to this Obamanation ... and you WILL pay for it at election time.
Gee, Jan...
Actions have consequences. I guess that puts you in the same league as the other trash buckets that accepted the medicaid deal. Oh, like the former Gov. Bill Richardson of NM.
By the way, since I consider old Bill one example of the lowest of life forms, you may consider that comparison as a real insult.
Arizona....bwahahaha...I feel your pain!!!
If you sleep with the devil you gotta nurse his baby.
Boo hoo.
And a tax on hospitals is not paid for by Arizona citizens? Dumb statement.
I didn’t know that about the movie. In the 70’s remake which I have watched many times there is a scene with Donald Sutherland and he is talking to the woman who says her husband “Jeffrey” is not acting himself and that he is different. Sutherland tells her she should talk to a doctor and maybe he can find out what is wrong with Jeffrey and maybe her husband had gone gay or Republican. When I heard that I just busted out laughing I guess in hindsight it is not realty too funny.
May you burn in Hell you pathetic whining RINO b*tch!
She took the Bait and now she is hooked....
She willfully ignored the fisherman until it was too late...
. And she said there is no direct cost to Arizona taxpayers, with the states share being paid by a tax on hospitals.
and who will pay for the taxes on hospitals? idiot!!!
RINO
You make a deal with the devil, don’t cry when you fell the burn.
You can’t have it both ways Jan. Although it seems like you always try.
