And I thought they got the name from a comic book character from my youth.
Blackhawk, his air force, his Chinese friend with a meat cleaver, evil men beware BLACKHAWK!!
The name of the Chicago Blackhawks comes from original owner, Frederic McLaughlin, who had been a commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. This Division was nicknamed the "Blackhawk Division" and named for a Native American of the Sauk nation, Black Hawk, who was a prominent figure in the history of Illinois.
Owner Frederic McLaughlin named the hockey team in honor of the military unit.
Sorry, nothing offensive about the name. Tell the PC a-holes to take a hike and do some reading.
