Hi Laz!
We got an interesting notification today at my office. Our insurance renews 7/1, the broker sent a packet asking if we’d like to change our renewal date to 1/1, and including what the new plans would cost. (We’re on a grandfathered plan that will not be available come next renewal date.)
The new plan was the TX BCBS Silver, close to what we currently have, and the new rates are based on age. This is a group plan, and each individual in the plan would be charged a different rate based on age.
My rate (should we change the renewal date), as a single person, aged “mumble mumble”, would be $200 cheaper than what I am currently paying, but my boss and his family would pay $500 more. Per month. All for the same group plan.
This is a freaking nightmare. They haven’t specifically stated we need to do anything yet . . . but getting an insight into the new rates has certainly raised eyebrows. Oh and the newest thing, is that come 2014, if your insurance plan doesn’t have a dental option for children under 21 (OY), it will be included for you and the enrollees (those with children) will have to pay the extra premium, like it or not.
It gave me a huge headache today.
I’m imagining new waiting lists to get in to see a dentist now, too.
