The SUV was one of at least two vehicles struck by the fleeing boy. He also hit an Edina Police squad car.

Hopefully he was a stowaway because he knew what his parents were going to do to his behind for stealing the truck.
Probably wishful thinking I know, but if I ever did that cross country still wouldn’t be a far enough head start to escape dad’s wrath.
All it would have meant was even longer before I could sit down again...

Sounds like a kid from down the street back in my old neighborhood.
At age 8 he stole a car and got into a high-speed chase with the cops. They were chasing him up a hill that dead-ended. He decided to do what he had seen done in every such instance on TV...threw the car in reverse and hopped out. It rolled down the hill and smashed-up 3 police cruisers.
Last I heard he was doing time for armed robbery in Texas.
