My Father, a Texan, meet and married my Mother, an Englishwoman, when he was in the Air Force in the 1960s. When I was a kid they used to go to English themed Christmas Parties thrown by a group of English women who had married GIs in WWII. I know at least one of them's husband was a shiftless drunk, but by and large they seemed happily married. My Mother still visits one of the ladies, who has been widowed for about 20 years.
