at least “Assault and battery with intent to maim or kill”.

An “attempted assault” means you missed hitting the person.

“Battery” is the actual criminal contact the assailant has with the victim.

I thought that a meaningful threat of violence, even without any actual attempt, was enough grounds for being guilty of assault.
