Texas. The state that gave us Sheila Jackson, Ma Richards, and LBJ.
Yeah, she’s got a good chance of winning.
I believe she is sometimes comparing herself to Ma Richards who seemed to be a lush most of the time. Her Texas drawl was always a slur rather than a drawl. We all know LBJ. Sheila “I can’t cross the street without sitting my big fat behind in the backseat of a Mercedes” Jackson Lee is self exclamatory.
Sheila Jackson Lee - 18th district was redistricted in 1972 to include inner city Houston specifically for Barbara Jordan and has been democrat run ever since. City of Houston hasn’t had a Republican major since 1939. Like most big cities, the welfare-sucking voters love their notorious Democrat hooligans. SJL gets donations from strange and unlikely places, like a large amount from Muslims of whom few populate her district (probably with the proviso that she not badmouth Muslims). Like Charlie Rangel, she keeps getting reelected in her district, but could never get elected statewide. Inner city Houston does not reflect the voting direction of the entire state of Texas.
Ann Richards - We have seen several recent elections where the media finds one word (macaca) or a statement and swings the election to the Democrat side. This was a similar happening, where astute businessman/rancher Clayton Williams was so politically tin-eared as to make a joke comparing rainy weather to rape as well as other blunders because he thought he didn’t need to play the political game. His swaggering behavior didn’t appeal to many women and truthfully, if he would have reined himself in, he would have been governor. Ann Richards, to her credit, presented herself well, but was pure Democrat snake. She was booted out next election by GW Bush.
LBJ - (1908-1973) come on, Texas was solidly Blue until fairly recently. Texas has had only 3 Republican governors in modern times and GWBush and Rick Perry were the latest two. The Democratic Party dominated the state from the end of Reconstruction until the late 20th century. Texas has since become a Republican stronghold.
Will Wendy Davis win? I seriously doubt this will happen. Greg Abbott is an articulate defender of the ideas of conservatism and a well spoken person. Late-term abortion and gun control are not issues that will win the day in Texas.
