1. Was she a danger? Yes
2. Was this handled properly? No
3. Could less than deadly force have been used? Yes
4. Why not? Lack of training. Robocop mentality on part of many cops today. Too many different enforcement agencies involved. Car was not going anywhere. If it was suspected of being wired would you walk up to it? Mistaken idea that you need to quickly “resolve” any conflict.
5. The Capital officer injured by deployment of car barricade by SS. This happens often in this type of situation. Your mates are more dangerous than the perp. in some instances. Think friendly fire. I have seen cops go down when one of them decided to shoot into a solid steel door. Not smart.
6. Shooting is the last resort not the first. Watching too many TV cop shows.
I was a state trooper and former agent about 30 years ago.
We prided ourselves on using that least used sense, common sense.

you know, most people don’t even think about this but I believe it’s true.

tv is INUNDATED with cop shows of all kinds.

They are shooting at people ALL THE TIME. Multiple times a show, weapons are drawn and gunfights occur.

The tactics used by the cops on these shows are theatrics and not legal in many cases, even the dialogs say so in certain stories.

We are swamped - and I believe - being programmed - to accept this sort of behavior and more importantly, SO ARE THE REAL COPS who watch this crap and think they can operate this way, like the tv cops.

It is brainwashing. NCIS and all, CSI and all, The Closer, Rookie Blue, Blue Bloods, NYPD whatever, Flashpoint, Criminal Minds, Numbers, The Shield, etc - some are not new but still in syndication - all this stuff.

Agree with all you said. It wasn't handled properly.

Regarding hussein talking to her, just why did the official have to emphasize this, "Those communications were, of course, in her head,"? The Navy Yard guy was also hearing voices. Makes one wonder if the guy who set himself on fire also heard voices. Too coincidental.
