WASHINGTON (AP) Their government has failed to keep the doors open and has told federal workers to stay off the job as the political parties fight over spending and health care in austere times.
Now Congress and President Barack Obama are sending this message to the 800,000 sidelined government employees: We don't know when the impasses will end but you will get reimbursed for lost pay once the government reopens.
With the partial shutdown entering its fifth day, the GOP-run House passed a bill Saturday that would make sure the furloughed workers get paid for not working. The White House backs the bill and the Senate was expected to OK it, too, but the timing was unclear.
The 407-0 vote in the House was uniquely bipartisan, even as lawmakers continued their partisan rhetoric.

They've been reassured that they will be paid, but are absolutely not allowed to work for it.
Pay for work that was not performed BUT no pay for work that was performed.
Federal workers still on the job won’t be receiving their paychecks until after the shutdown.
Nice fairness act... NOT
Maybe the GOP should make the focus the Dem lie that Obamacare will cost less etc. What's the root cause of all this?
Poor planning on the part of the GOP? Unintended consequences?
How about "I want a 30 second sound byte or one paragraph on my facebook page that says I did something about spending/obamacare."
I dont see that there was any planning going on there by any of them.
It was ‘we have to jump into this because it’s right or we are following our principles and if we just dont blink something good might happen so follow us or else because it doesnt matter who wins..’
Next thing ya know its more paid vacation for all government workers so ‘we can win’ , cant figure out what master principle that conforms to.
On the bright side. looks like Obama’s not going to get amnesty this year.
