Businesses and residents on the Outer Banks have planned a peaceful protest of the closure of Hatteras Island's beaches due to the government shut down.
Ryan White, who owns Hatteras Jack Tackle Shop in Rodanthe, tells WITN the protest is planned for noon on Saturday at the entrance to Cape Point.
He says right now added law enforcement officials are blocking off all access to the beaches, which he says is unfortunate and unfair for tourists and businesses.
A Facebook page has even popped up in support of opening the beaches. It's called "The People's Beach." So far, several hundred people say they are going to the event.
The U.S. House Wednesday passed a measure to reopen national parks and monuments. It will now go to the U.S. Senate.
I didn’t say you could beach a 50 ft sport fisher. What is the local weather today? The forecast says knee high waves, smooth sea, 4 mph wind from the south. Hell I could take a pretty large outboard in and out with those conditions.
I must be confused on Cape Hatteras proper versus the National Seashore. Conditions today sound like a bath tub.
These Obama yrs feels like I am in a nightmare. It is unreal.
So there is no money to keep them open, but there is money to fund additional enforcement to keep them closed. Something is very, very wrong in DC and it starts at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Can you find a story and start a thread?
Thanks for the link! I wouldn’t have found it via search - can’t imagine why!
You start it;

No so. There is little swamp in the Oregon Inlet area, and I agree that approach from Manteo, on the west side of the Sound,is far more safe and desirable than a boat landing on the ocean side. We have vacationed on the Outer
Banks for over fifty years and owned a cottage for many of those years. I’ll take questions.
“The inlet beaches have areas suitable for landing”
The inlet (Oregon) has some of the most dangerous water on the East Coast. The very sizable sport fishing fleet moored on the north side of Oregon Inlet, will not attempt the inlet under some conditions and those are 50’, ocean going boats. Better to avoid that.
How much is it costing to have extra law enforcement to keep The People off The People's land?
I said the same thing about boats on Georgetown Lake (TX). The closed gate hasn't stopped people on foot from entering. A closed sign isn't going to stop all those illegals entering the parks in Oregon to tend their marijuana fields. Hey, they won't have to worry about ICE or DEA, huh.
Under the current conditions, the citizens of these United States have a MORAL OBLIGATION to completely disregard any unlawful goobermunt order. Bypass the signs and guards, remove the barricades, even when presented with threat of force. It’s that simple.
I’m surprised they haven’t closed the Airports or grounded air traffic.
yep
