A man reportedly set himself on fire on the National Mall this afternoon and was airlifted to a hospital. Police were called to respond to the emergency at 4.24pm and the fire was put out. The man has not been named, but DC Police reportedly said that he was conscious and breathing. Witnesses said that they saw him sitting on the Mall, dousing himself with gasoline which he had in a gas canister. Some reports say that two male bystanders initially tried to put the fire out using their own shirts while others put the number of Good Samaritans at closer to five or six people.

PING! He made it on to Drudge!
Curious how the first I hear of stories like this is always from the foreign press.
This is a truly dread thing. I hope it is not the beginning of a pattern. I’ve seen this over many decades and it does draw attention...
I recall Glenn Beck saying a weird thing about something like this happening on his radio show not too long ago. That this is what will set off the “revolution “ or something. Anyone recall this too?
I expect a revolution to break out any day now.
They will soon be arresting the good samaritans for entering a closed national park.

Guess he was burned up about something.
Was he singing “Fire” by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown? “I am the god of hellfire and I bring you fire...”
“They will soon be arresting the good samaritans for entering a closed national park.”
the “good Samaritan law” in latham, Massachusetts requires them to help.
The presidential fire brigade is on duty 24/7 for just such an emergency. There is usually (always) one of those big wheel airport looking fire trucks lurking in the background too.
Pants on fire is a common problem for liars but don’t misunderstand, I’m not calling this guy a liar.
Yes I recall it.
My first thought was this was some nut trying to kick start the revolution like the Arab Spring just like Glenn Beck said.
Similar things have happened before during the previous 17 shut downs?
I think he was singing “Through The Fire” by Larry Greene from the Top Gun soundtrack.

Through The Fire
by Larry Greene
I will take it to the wire now
Until every race is run
I’ll go straight into the fire now
Until every day is done
Voices say - break away
Live the night as if each moment
Was the only one
Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
Through the fire.
There’s a feeling that I can’t ignore
Like a stranger at my door
So revealing that I cannot hide
When you settle up the score
Voices say - night and day
Live your life as if each second
Was the final one
Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
I look for signs that you are here tonight
When the passion calls the pleasure to the pain
Then I ask you of the meaning when you talk of love
Would you take the leap of faith?
Would you throw it all away?
Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
Through the fire.
Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Though the fire
To the wire
In Tunisia a street vendor set himself on fire in 2010 due to the economy starting the Arab Spring protests.
Another poor soul who went crazy because they couldn’t sign up for Obamacare......*tsk*tsk*
Please tell me it was Obama who self-immolated?
Who says it’s over the shutdown? It’s been repeated in many countries over different protest reasons. The famous beginning, I remember, was during Viet Nam by Buddhist monks.
