I don’t get why the House doesn’t look at defunding the guards now deployed.

None of these places had guards before and now they do?

Non-sense.

Security is a mix. The WWII memorial is an open site on the Mall. They had to go out of their way to barricade it. I suppose Park Police would routinely patrol the area, but I would assume they still do, since protecting federal property is an essential function. Plus the DC police can patrol.

Anacostia Park, which I referenced earlier, is just an open field, unguarded and patrolled very lightly. They've apparently told the youth teams that it's "closed," although I can't imagine what would stop you from just driving over and playing. Unless, of course, they've added security to arrest scofflaws who make a mock of the federal shutdown.

The Marine Barracks has its regular security, since it is an active military post. Nothwithstanding that, they've closed it to the youth teams. There is absolutely no reason it couldn't remain open, since the existing security arrangements are still operating.

It's not news to anyone here, but Team Obama is swerving way out of its lane to cause petty disruption and aggravation. These are just small concrete examples. It's stupid and spiteful.
