“Covering Rushmore with a drape makes as much sense as blocking off an open air monument. And, yes, bam-bam is doing it to hurt the vets. Maybe the Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington monuments should be off limits, too.”
They probably are. The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are closed and barricaded in Philadelphia. Folks can get a peek at the Bell thru a window in the building.
The National Public Service is probably doing the barricades to save themselves from lawsuits if something happens while none of their rangers are there. (I did read on an FR thread yesterday about the WW II vets that a Park ranger agreed with the vets and didn’t try to impede their progress.)
my oops—”National Public Service” should be “National PARK Service”.
Independence Hall I can understand, but not the huge open air monuments.
The lawsuit thing is their excuse, but it’s a bogus one. The memorials are open 24/7, but park service employees are not there 24/7. They don’t put up barricades at night - when, presumably it would be even MORE dangerous.
Please don’t buy into their propaganda - they put up barricades for ONE REASON - to cause inconvenience and pain to ordinary citizens, and then try to blame the Tea Party.
