Yes Kaiser Steel. And it got so danged expensive when people realized it was 3rd payer and "free" they also invented the HMO to try to control cost.
And you dovetail on a larger thought that is impossible for America to get it's arms around could if you go their it also means do you disassemble Medicare/Medicaid ( or try serious free-market models ) because the Kaiser experiment we all are living is wrong and do we go back before Kaiser?

The plan in mind I have is one touted by a State Senator here in Michigan and it failed in the Senate by one vote ( turncoat Rino did it ). This plan the brainchild of Sen. Pat Colbeck, combines the Obama Loop-Hole of "concierge service" with what is now almost illegal Health Savings Accounts. So you pay a primary care a flat rate per month for unlimited service while you have catastrophic / HSA if you get hit by the bus.
We need to ween ourselves from 3rd party payer, or go with the model I suggested, or we will end up with single payer...
